Trump’s Federal Shutdown Impact On Pharmacy Practice And The Bottomline.

Independent Pharmacist

The impact of the Trump Federal Shutdown on Pharmacy Practice and the Pharmacy Profession is significant. More than 800,000 people without pay due to the shutdown and the shutdown now has significant impact for small Independent Pharmacies. This Trump Shutdown could even impact HR4199 – The Pharmaceutical Stewardship Act of 2017.

The bill requires the Drug Enforcement Administration to establish and implement a National Pharmaceutical Stewardship Program to collect and dispose of prescription medications, according to the ACP*CN The Association of community Pharmacists Congressional Network working with over 22,000 Independent Pharmacies. ACP*CN provides support and information to Independent Pharmacists. ACP*CN is fully dedicated to recapture the profession of Pharmacy back from the overwhelming monopolistic power of the humongous PBMs and working together from the Grass Roots up to the Congress.

The Trump Shutdown will impact Federally Funded Healthcare Facilities with Pharmacies, certain Independent Pharmacies which provide services to Federal employees and other Health related Federal Agencies eg: DEA, FDA.

A resolution is needed ASAP so small Independent Pharmacists can continue to provide Pharmaceutical care to Federal employees and their relatives who are unable to cover copays as a result of the Trump Federal Shutdown.
